Marijuana in the bible - christians and weed.
One of the arguments that you will come across when arguing over this question is that the bible tells that our body is a holy temple. Thus so, we must treat it with respect, uttermost care and protection. Christians will probably tell you that smoking marijuana causes harm to your body and soul, so it is a sin to smoke marijuana. Radicals might even argue that the high of marijuana is part of the beasts deception. Please don't buy into these myths, Christianity isn't all that bad if only people weren't so close-minded to solely believe in their own interpretation of it. Marijuana has been used throughout time in many religious ceremonies and practices and I can assure you by my own experience that using cannabis with decency adds a tremendous amount to our spiritual enterprise.
Rastafarian movement and the herb
So what does the bible say about using marijuana? Are there really any references in the bible about marijuana? The short answer is yes. Of course, when it comes down to it, everything you read can be interpreted in a way you see fit. Let me just say in advance that it is not a sin to smoke marijuana! Always remember that "drugs" is just a term coined by society. When you think about how many people are walking around on medication, however, it's really not all that different. In case of marijuana it's even a lot better! So let's jump right into the references!
"God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth. To you it will be for meat.". And God saw everything that he had made and behold, it was very good. - Genesis 1:29-31
Probably the most fundamental one of the references. Every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth is for us to use as meats. One of the slang names for marijuana is also herb. This reference clearly states that it is not up to us to decide which plants can be consumed, it's God nature for us in its entire form!
On either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielding her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. - Revelations 22:1-2
Bob Marley once said; "Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol the destruction.". It seems like Bob Marley knew this reference from the bible and its spot on when we put it into contrast with our current society. Even more so, the twelve manner of fruits that are described are spot on with the ways cannabis was used. Marijuana and hemp were used in twelve different ways back then: Clothing, paper, cord, sails, fishnet, oil, sealant, incense, food, relaxation and medicine.
Remember when Jesus said that the first one without sin and guilt should throw the first stone? Next to these references it's not hard to see that Jesus isn't a person of thorn and hatred but of forgiveness and love. So next time you're wondering; "Is it a sin to smoke pot?" just read these passages and the fundamental message that Jesus Christ has given you. Don't let your parents indoctrinate you with these absurd statements! Whenever I smoke weed with my friends we always cross topics like religion, spirituality and philosophy. It can bring you closer to God. Just make sure you don't use it too frequently and with the right reasons; To broaden your soul.
